Most couples don’t realize how much their wedding timeline affects their photos.
After photographing many weddings, I’ve seen how small timing mistakes and what no wedding photography timeline can mean. Missing sunset portraits, rushing family photos, or losing time for the moments that matter most.
As an Augusta wedding photographer serving Augusta and surrounding areas, I help couples build timelines that protect the most important moments of the day — while still keeping everything relaxed and enjoyable.

Sunset portraits are often the most beautiful images in a wedding gallery.
But if the wedding photography timeline doesn’t account for when the sun actually sets, couples can miss that golden light completely.
I once photographed a November wedding where hair and makeup ran behind schedule. We only had about 15 minutes for couple portraits before leaving for the ceremony, and by the time the ceremony finished it was already dark because of daylight savings.
Unfortunately, we completely missed sunset photos.
This is why I always help couples build timelines around lighting — not just the clock.
Hair and makeup delays are one of the most common issues on wedding days.
If getting ready runs late, it can cut into your wedding photography timeline:
I recommend planning extra buffer time so delays don’t affect the rest of the day.
Without buffer time, one small delay can affect the entire day.
Adding just 10–15 minute cushions between events keeps the day relaxed instead of rushed.
Based on my experience photographing weddings, here’s the wedding photography timeline and times I typically recommend:
45 minutes
This includes:

30 minutes
This allows time for:

Family photos move much faster when:
45 minutes
This is when couples can relax and enjoy a quiet moment together while capturing some of the most meaningful photos of the day.

Sunset portraits are often couples’ favorite images in their gallery.
I always check sunset timing through an app before the wedding and plan portraits and the wedding photography timeline during the best light. Sun Seeker is a great app to plan for the timing of sunset photos.

There are many advantages to doing a first look before the ceremony.
A first look allows couples to:
This makes the rest of the day much more relaxed.
If couples choose not to do a first look, it’s important to create a wedding photography timeline that allows time for:
And there should also be a plan to keep guests entertained during that time so they’re not waiting too long.
When couples book with me, I help guide the timeline based on what I’ve seen work best at real weddings.
My approach includes:
✔ helping couples build a timeline based on lighting
✔ checking sunset timing before the wedding
✔ looking at venue lighting and layout
✔ coordinating with planners and venues
✔ helping couples prioritize the photos that matter most to them
The goal is always the same:
to create a timeline that allows couples to fully enjoy their wedding day while capturing beautiful photos.
Your wedding timeline doesn’t just affect your schedule — it affects your entire gallery.
With thoughtful planning, enough portrait time, and a timeline built around natural light, your wedding day can feel relaxed while still capturing every meaningful moment.
If you’re planning a wedding in Aiken, Augusta, or the surrounding areas, I’d love to help you create a timeline that works perfectly for your day.
